In the 1830's, John O'Donovan whilst working with the Ordnance Survey (1st edition) noted what he thought was the remnants of an ancient boundary of Ulster. In his memoirs, he notes many oral stories related to the local geography.

He notes part of this feature being in the townlands of Lislea and Mullynavannoge
